Recognizing the void in accolades for the feline crowd, I developed the CatCon Awards, with categories like Biggest Newcomer and Advocate of the Year. Modeled after the People’s Choice Awards, our social media followers could nominate and subsequently vote for winners via our website. We witnessed a huge turnout, with thousands of entries and votes. Our sponsor was Frontline, and presenters included names like Tricia Helfer, Ian Somerhalder and Nala Cat. Our first Biggest Newcomer winner, Sir Thomas Trueheart, became a top influencer in less than 3 months.
In 2020 CatCon pivoted to a virtual event - CatCon From Your Couch. We reimagined the CatCon Awards ceremony for a virtual format, keeping the user-driven entry and voting process. Presenters from across the globe included singer Kesha, the heroes of the Australian Firefighters' Calendar, Grace Africa, and Cats of Instagram.
